Position Summary
The National Sales Executive is primarily responsible for prospecting and obtaining new business for the corporation throughout North America. This senior sales position normally targets accounts larger than $50k.
Key Responsibilities (Supervisory/Materials/Information)
  • Daily by phone, prospecting for potential clients by means of cold calls, referrals / leads from branches and other departments and recommendations from existing clients. Follow up all leads.
  • Meets with potential clients on a daily basis to describe our services, obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals i.e. volume of shipments, complexity of data base, financial exposure to our company etc. Answer any questions the potential clients may have and leave them with company marketing brochures.
  • Present proposal to prospective client outlining costs, services we will provide and any additional information on the corporation as required. Follows standard proposal format with any modifications to meet the special needs of the potential client
  • Liaise with clients, Trade Compliance, Operations, Client Partnering Departments as well as branch locations to ensure that all necessary data had been gathered to meet the requirements of each department as well as the client
  • Supervise the work flow of a sales coordinator. Providing him/her with guidance and any technical information as required.
  • Prepare required weekly/monthly sales reports within the prescribed time frames
  • All other duties as prescribed by Management.
Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in sales, marketing or business
  • 5 10 years proven track record in a sales role
  • In-depth knowledge of our industry and in some cases a SME for a specific business unit (ie Freight expert or Supply Chain expert)
Competencies, Working Skills & Attributes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate and liaise with prospects and existing client base.
  • Must hold a valid drivers license and have no restrictions on travel between Canada / US. Valid passport is required.
  • The incumbent must have knowledge and the ability to operate computer terminals, calculators, fax, photocopiers, telephone and vehicles.
  • Experience in completing formal RFPs.
  • Excellent time management skills to effectively meet the required sales targets.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills to keep track of new leads, meetings that have been arranged, dealing with many client concerns and sales proposals.
Working Conditions, Mental Effort & Physical Requirements
  • Must hold valid drivers license and have the capability of travel to the US and abroad
  • Must be able to sit for extended period of time while traveling, preparing documents, ect.
  • Ability to focus on computer screen, written materials, traffic, etc. for extended periods of time
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals
  • Able to work under deadlines and extreme stress
  • Able to professionally handle various personnel and other issues as they arise
  • Travel may involve risk due to hazardous road conditions, flying, etc.
